Bad News Mitigation Intervention 3/2/14.

Taliesin Ward is pleased to have introduced the Bad News Mitigation intervention on 5 April 2014.
During handovers, patients who have received, or may receive bad news, are discussed by the nursing team, and supportive interventions are considered.
This process also serves to raise general awareness of how best to identify and manage the unexpected frustrations or disappointments which people may experience. when necessary, a specific member of staff may be allocated to engage one to one with the patient, ensuring that they have all the relevant inforamtion relating to their care, and to allow them to voice any concerns whuich they may have.
The effectiveness of the interventions used will be recorded in the MDT notes, allowing the team to develop a greater understanding of the approaches which work most successfully with the individual, in keeping with the principles of personalised care. Working on the principle that every crisis is an opportunity in disguise, the patient can actually develop their own skills to manage receiving bad news.
