Discharge Messages Wall - Concept of Recovery

Hi
Following discussions with ward manager and security team I wanted to share what our team and patients have come up with for our discharge messages wall. The patients worked collaboratively with the staff to discuss the patient journey and what recovery meant to each of us. The patients elected to use the journey from caterpillar to butterfly as a representation of stages of change occuring in recovery. The patients and staff wanted the wall to be filled with hope and encouragement and to be bright and cheerful. As patients will be discharged they will be offered a butterfly shaped card to write a message on and this will be added to the wall. Our patients have all thoroughly enjoyed this experience and are very pleased with the final result. Since our environment is medium secure forensic we often have patients who remain with us for some time. It transpired from discussions that the wall was something positive for patients, even those who expected to be in our company for a longer period of time than their peers, and as making a clinical environment more personal and 'homely'.
Enjoy!
