More evidence from Keats ward at Meadowbrook - this time it is a staff meeting looking at the talk down poster with our champion leading the way. We've involved everyone in the training, including housekeepers, admin, OT's and doctors alongside all the nursing staff.

The talk down poster generated lots of debate and conversation with the staff. We were able to use real life examples and discussed good and bad practice that we have all witnessed.

After reading some other comments on the Talk Down poster, we arranged to have the poster increased in size - we needed to use our Estates department who have experience of coming up with large plans. We put the poster up in the Staff Kitchen, and at our last Safewards Awayday, HCA Aidan Stables said that he had been reading this poster, and it struck him that he - and the rest of us - already do what the Talk Down poster was explaining, so he managed to talk himself into being the Talk Down Champion! All staff working in mental health in our area have De-escalation training as part of a week long course on managing aggression when they start, but it's good to have a focus to remind us daily.

Good Luck to Aiden in his role. And well done for being selected as a good de-escalator. (You look friendly enough!)

The poster is about the right as you want people to be drawn to it by it's size. For other implimentors - THE BIGGER THE BETTER.

It sounds to me Sian, as if your office is too small - but then I have heard peole say a small office space also has uses as staff are out and abouit more.

See you on tuesday night!
