My opinion is that it is helpful to have a sense of what the issues are for your ward. Do you have lots of UALs? Conflict between patients? Practices that are coercive and mean that you get into conflict with service users?
The youtube clips are also useful for generating enthusiasm.
From the Safewards reading I have done I developed a 'check-list' of what would contribute to a ward being 'unsafe'. This can be useful to highlight what areas are problematic.
