Calm Down Methods and Sensory Modulation was created by CNS Ward 9c Dunedin
Hi All,
I was wondering if there are other wards that have implemented sensory modulation on their wards prior to the Safewards intervention? Is there a difference between Calm Down Methods and Sensory Modulation?
Sensory Modulation has been happening in Dunedin (NZ) for the last couple of years, led mostly by Occupational Therapists. I have been looking for Sensory Modulation evidence for acute care. There is not a lot of it about, however what is about seems to have had an impact on seclusion, violence and self harm.

Hi Steve,
We are covering Calm Down Methods in the next webinar. As you have been doing some reading around this, how about joining us for a discussion if the time difference allows?

Attached are a couple of documents from Te Pou, a New Zealand Mental Health Government-funded training organization on the use of Sensory Modulation in acute mental health.
