Our journey

We wanted everyone to see what we were doing and how we are implementing safewards. We wanted all of our ladies and all the staff on the ward to be involved and so we had a noticeboard put up and drew a road on this to signify our journey and also put traffic lights on the road to signify where we were up to. I've included a picture but it's not very clear.

We've had some visitors today during our coffee afternoon stop and ask what it's about and we've had some positive feedback about how we are trying to improve our practices on the ward.

This is such a good idea to display it this way; up to now, we've had a workshop day with Geoff Brennan and Marion Janner, and two of us have been working on our baseline information, but then decided that we didn't need to wait, we can still get stats from 12 months prior to implementation anyway. Staff have been very aware of Safewards for a while, and have had it in mind, without formally implementing any of the interventions, but the competition has focussed our minds somewhat, so we decided to start implementing last week - beginning with Positive Words, and Know Each Other. We need to get a colour printer, rather than email anything we need in colour to another department! The Know Each Other sheets have been completed since about September!! and that was great fun, once people got over their defensiveness about giving information about themselves. The Consultant and myself added photos onto ours, so now I'm waiting for staff to provide - or draw - pictures of themselves so we can go ahead and laminate them for the book! Students have been very interested in this, and are taking the ideas away to their next placements.
