The Radbourne Unit

Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust

The lovely Nikki Simbani invited us up to Derby were we gave a presentation open to all. And guess who came? The Chief Executive (Steve Trenchard), the Director of Nursing (Carolyn Green) - and even important people like Ward Managers, Ward Staff, OT’s , Psychology, Art Therapy two ladies from Nottingham ( including Bea,.. who was straight off a night shift) and service users and patients from the wards.

The session had over 30 people, but as I didn’t have permission from all present, so I didn’t take an audience photo. I did take one of us setting up, and one of a very beautiful pet therapy dog (called Kira) who was also present and a photo of Florence Nightingale I found on my way back to the station. (She wasn’t born in Derby, so why the statue?? Anyone know?)

I know that the staff on the day were/are very keen to look at Safewards for the Unit – particularly as there is a new ward opening and the wards are moving to gender specific. Safewards also fits in with a general aim of less restriction.

The audience were fantastic – and superbly even joined in with their own examples and comments at times ( thanks again Jonathan). Apparently Bernie would be a great Talk Down Champ (you had to be there).

Good luck to all in Derby, and thank you for listening.
