FIRST SAFEWARDS COMPETITION: ANNOUNCEMENT OF WINNERS

Safewards is delighted to announce that we now have a ward that has been able to demonstrate full implementation of the 10 interventions evidenced in the Safewards trial.

Our warm congratulation goes to: KEATS WARD in the MEADOWBROOK MENTAL HEALTH UNIT.

The Meadowbrook Mental health unit provides services in Salford and is on the Salford Royal Hospital site. Keats ward is a 22 bedded adult acute unit for female patients. The ward and unit are part of services provided by Greater Manchester West Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust. The implementation of Safewards was led by Ward Manager Nyreen Nangle with assistance from Deputy Ward Manager Rebecca Johnson.

Both Nyreen and Rebecca are impressive clinical leaders who secured funding for interventions through the Trust Dragons Den Initiative, attended a Safewards presentation provided by Manchester University and the Trust in January of this year and have worked hard at bringing both the ward staff and service users on board. They have indicated that Karen Clancy assisted with auditing and Mike Doyle for Manchester University assisted with implementation.
We have included a summary sheet of the evidence provided by Keats Ward to demonstrate introduction of the 10 interventions plus links the Safewards Website where this evidence can be found.

We offer our deepest respect and hearty congratulation to Nyreen and Rebecca and all the staff and service users associated with Keats Ward.
We would also add that we hope Keats Ward success inspires others to complete the introduction of the interventions on their wards and we promise to provide a certificate and acknowledgment of completion if we receive similar evidence.
